With technology all around us, we often forget to think about how it affects the environment. Yet, the impact of e-waste and improper disposal of electronics is causing significant harm to our planet. To tackle this, JustUsed Tech is proud to launch the Tech4Hope School Tour, an initiative dedicated to educating young minds on the importance of responsible Tech use, E-waste management, and the circular economy.
The Mission Behind Tech4Hope
The Tech4Hope School Tour is not just another educational event, it is a movement designed to inspire secondary school students in Lagos, particularly in Makoko and its neighboring communities, to rethink their relationship with technology. The tour, which runs from September to November, aims to equip these students with the knowledge and tools to become environmental champions, promoting responsible e-waste disposal and sustainable tech habits.
At JustUsed Tech, we believe that by educating students on these critical issues, we are planting seeds for a greener, more sustainable future.
Our goal is simple: to empower the next generation to take active steps in preserving the environment while embracing technology responsibly.
Our First Stop: A Successful Start
We are thrilled to share that the Tech4Hope School Tour kicked off with a successful event at a secondary school, EMMA EL-SHADDAI in Lagos! Students eagerly engaged in discussions and activities about the environmental risks posed by e-waste, learning how improper disposal can lead to pollution and harm both human health and the planet.
Through interactive presentations and hands-on learning, students discovered the power of recycling, reusing, and reducing electronic waste. They also learned how these actions contribute to the circular economy, a concept that promotes keeping products and materials in use for as long as possible, reducing the need for new resources and minimizing waste.
What’s Next for the Tech4Hope School Tour?
Our journey doesn’t stop here. Over the coming weeks, we will be visiting more secondary schools across Makoko, sharing the message of environmental sustainability and the importance of managing tech waste responsibly. Each event is a one-day session packed with engaging activities designed to make learning fun and memorable for students.
Key Objectives of the Tour Include:
Raising Awareness About E-Waste: Students will understand the harmful effects of improperly discarded electronics on the environment and learn how to manage tech devices at the end of their lifecycle.
